(French below)
So it seems that even though many of you do see me at the gym, you may not know I am the one writing. Thus I figured why not make it more… obvious. The picture added to the lil following bio will give you a visual of who I am. The goal is mostly so that you can come ask questions if you do have any, suggest ideas for other articles, discuss something I wrote or just chat.
So my name is Stephanie… or Steph… or Stephanie A. I got other nicknames that I will NOT mention to save myself some dignity. I joined CrossFit Léman in October 2012 (or so). I enjoyed it right away, but I knew I would. My sports past has been made of gymnastics, volleyball, some fitness, and kickboxing/ Thai boxing. I also did some dancing (with partners, not solo dancing). I’ve always been the brain in my family, ending my years of studying with a Licence ès Lettres. So that explains my enjoyment of writing. I spent quite an amount of time in the US, thus why I can write/speak English rather well. It’s like my second country… yup I’ve been slightly Americanized.
As you have read, I have been through stages of being overweight (see article https://crossfitleman.ch/index.php/2015/12/12/fighting-those-kilos/ ). This was a big struggle for me that really took down my self-confidence. But I overcame it, and it makes me say that anyone can do it with discipline, patience and belief in self. As far as other physical things… well my cardio sucks. And I am rather good with heavy weights. So yes, you won’t see me be amazing if I have to go fast with light weights because it is not my thing. But I can and will hopefully start working on it. I also balance CrossFit with yoga as my mobility is a weakness of mine. I got a terrible squat and I want to keep on improving so that I avoid injuries. I am by far not an incredible athlete, but I enjoy challenging myself (muscle up, handstand walk) and seeing that even if I want to… I am able to NOT give up and go to the end, even if I feel like screaming and insulting people who are encouraging me (which I don’t!).
CrossFit Leman has become a group of friends… a fitness family. People do come and go at times, but there is always someone(s) worth discovering, talking to, encouraging, teasing, learning from… And sometimes it even happens that you start seeing some outside of the gym!
Anyways… to summarize who I am… I will use what I have heard from others. Stephanie is funny (sarcastic/crazy), smart, kind, thoughtful, perseverant, friendly, a good listener/good counsellor, weird/different (in a good way), too hard on herself, dramatic /passionate ( I do act onstage), writes a LOT, overanalyzing, not a quitter (not always a good thing), encouraging, understanding, open, wild (interpret it as you want), strong, a perfectionist/people pleaser, pessimistic at times about certain things (not for others but myself), loving, GREAT hugger… and I can tease people to death if I see that they won’t be offended. To summarize, I am just a rather normal person… with good and bad (working on the bad).
So now… you know me a tiny bit better. So no excuse! Feel free to come to me if you see me around!
Stephanie A.
